Sleep Apnea/Snoring Treatment

Many people regard snoring as simply a mild annoyance. However, snoring can indicate a more serious condition called sleep apnea. With sleep apnea, patients stop breathing for at least 10 second intervals, sometimes hundreds of time during the course of one night. Obstructive sleep apnea, the most common type of sleep apnea, occurs when the soft tissue in the back of the throat collapses during sleep, which blocks your airway. Besides leaving you tired, sleep apnea can contribute to headaches, memory problems, weight gain, high blood pressure, or cardiovascular disease if left untreated.

Your doctor will conduct a thorough assessment of your situation before recommending treatment. Patients who snore do not necessarily have sleep apnea. Dr. Ahnquist can treat mild to moderate sleep apnea as well as snoring with a custom-fitted SomnoDent snoreguard. The SomnoDent oral appliance will hold your jaw slightly forward, which prevents your soft palate and tongue from blocking your airway as you sleep. Far from being uncomfortable, a SomnoDent snoreguard is customized for your mouth, and its discreet design allows you to close your lips during wear.

Get a good night's rest. Call us today and schedule your appointment with Dr. Ahnquist to discuss the benefits of therapy for sleep apnea or snoring, including a SomnoDent MAS snoreguard. We welcome patients from Lexington, Paris, Frankfort, and surrounding areas to our Georgetown, KY practice.
